ESP downhole pump to increase the pressure in the well to overcome the sum of flowing pressure losses.
ESP pumps, driven by electric motors, the kinetic energy of the fluid is increased first, to be then partly converted to pressure energy that moves the fluid through the pump
Design criteria are needed to select a submersible pump for a specific wellbore.
• Volumetric flow rate (Q)
• Total dynamic head (TDH)
Select most efficient pump that will fit into the casing. Larger diameter pumps are more efficient, shorter pump will produce same flow rate.
Its cheaper to build, less pump stages for same flow rate.

Pump Maximum Housing Pressure
Maximum pressure occurs at shut in – producing against closed valve Worst case scenario
Where:
MHP = maximum housing pressure (PSI)
SIH = shut in head (ft/stage) at 60Hz
SG = average specific gravity of fluid
